In this interview on School Struggles, Dr. Selznick interviews Fran Sherman, LCSW, a psychotherapist and media personality. Fran discusses the pros and cons of social media for adolescents.

Fran is a television personality who has appeared on the Today Show, HLN, truTV, Fox News, Fox Live, The Daily Buzz, The Morning Show, Daytime and the local NBC, ABC and Fox news affiliates in the West Palm Beach market. She provides expert commentary on news of the day, and has done segments involving love, relationships, parenting, bullying, anxiety, stress, the economy, and issues related to educating our children.

She seems to feel like her friends want to take pictures of her to post on their social media. I do not allow my 8th grader to have any media accounts right now and she takes it very seriously when others want to post her picture. I just tell her to try to avoid it if possible and try to be nice about it. Read Less

Perhaps you can model direct, but polite (nice) ways of talking to her friends and asking them not to post on social media. It's really something that isn't talked about enough and I think it's a good for you to set your boundaries with your daughter to let her know how you feel about it and the concerns you have.
